Mercury in Retrograde; Not always a bad thing

Mercury in Retrograde (MIR) is the “Murphy’s Law” of astrology, “if something could go wrong, it most likely will”.

During MIR, the jokey-jokester Mercury will catch the blame for everything that annoys or frustrates us, such as: delayed or cancelled travel plans, traffic jams, computers crashes, electronic malfunctions, or overall miss-communication.

Forewarned is forearmed! Properly arm yourself through these three-week periods by understanding what MIR actually is.

Three times a year, and sometimes four; the planet Mercury will appear that it is moving backwards, however it’s an optical illusion! Think of it like this: you’re sitting on a non-moving train while the train next to yours starts moving, at first glance doesn’t it feel like you’re moving as well?

While MIR can be a frustrating time and many major debacles have taken place during MIR, let’s keep in mind that several other astrological aspects have played a HUGE part as well.

Although Mercury is a bit of a trickster, MIR it’s not necessarily a bad thing!

Use this time to:

· Re-view and complete projects you have already begun
· Re-organize your home office
· Re-decorate your bedroom
· Re-place little things that no longer function, such as light bulbs or locks
· Re-vive your inner self through meditation or yoga
· Re-evaluate un-healthy lifestyle choices

MERCURY IN RETROGRADE SURVIVAL GUIDE

MIR = November 6th

Mercury rules communication and during MIR your computers will misbehave, travel plans will get delayed or cancelled, traffic will be ridiculous, or the email expressing how hungover you are from partying the previous night will accidentally be sent to your boss. Led Zeppelin sang it best, it’s a “Communication Breakdown”.

Write important things down because you WILL forget them!

Don’t partake in any important discussions during MIR as things will be misunderstood and arguments will be on high. What you really mean to say will get jumbled by the time it leaves your lips! With that said, it’s probably not the best time to say the two magic words “I do”!

Retrograde = Review - Redo - Revaluate - Research -Reread -Recheck -Rethink!

You might feel your mind is foggy and find yourself not being able to “think straight”. You could feel clumsy, off-balanced, or just “out of it”. If you find yourself dropping your keys 3x before getting them into the lock, you may be feeling the affects of MIR.

Do NOT make any important decisions or plans during MIR, such as planning to get married on a whim in Vegas. You may think you have all your rhinestone studded bathing suits in a row and found a deal on round-trip tickets for $99, only to find out your grandparents 50th wedding anniversary is the the same weekend!

Does Mercury really stop and move backwards?

No. However, from our view from Earth it kind of looks that way due to the speed difference between the two planets.

Should I just stay inside the house during Mercury Retrograde ?

No. As long as you are aware of the affects of MIR, you are fully armed to walk outside and have some fun. Just don’t sign anything, plan anything, commit to anything, or talk about anything important. :)

How do I know when Mercury is retrograde?

Normally MIR is 3x a year. I suggest purchasing a calendar that clearly indicates when MIR is occurring so you are always in-the-know!

How long does a retrograde of Mercury last?

MIR last for about three weeks. However, you may begin to feel the affects a few days before as Mercury appears to slow down (shadow period) and a few weeks after when Mercury appears to speed back up (release period). The feeling is similar to when you step off the Gravitron or a 7 day cruise!

What are the best crystals or stones to keep me balanced during MIR?

Keep these crystals close by during MIR and you’ll notice a difference: Lepidolite, Citrine, Hematite, Ametrine, Smoky Quartz, and Moss Agate

CREATING A SAMHAIN ANCESTOR ALTAR

Samhain, October 31^st, is a time when the veil separating the physical realm from the spirit realm is thin, allowing us to communicate, feel, or sense our loved ones who have crossed into the Summerland. It is a time to honor all those who have walked this sacred Earth before us and thank them for their knowledge we carry forth in our hearts and in our veins.

It is also the Witches New Year, a time to project what we wish to draw into our lives for the coming year. It is important to be specific, clear, and concise as we send our projections into the Universe at the “Witching Hour”.

There is no right way or wrong way to set up your ancestor altar. It can be as big or little depending on space. Create it from the heart and you cannot go wrong.

The picture above is of my personal ancestor altar. I create mine on the fireplace mantle and leave the fire burning for 24 hours.

Some things you may want to include:

Pictures of loved ones who have crossed
Items of remembrance or importance to them
Flowers
Candles
Crystals
Herbs
Hand written letters to your loved ones who have crossed
Mulled, Red Wine or favorite beverage to toast
Dark bread as an offering of feast
Tea lights
God or Goddess Statues
Skulls
Grave rubbings
Symbols of the afterlife or ascention

Arrange your altar. Place a tea light in front of your loved ones photos and light them as you recite their name and remember them. If they have crossed into the spirit realm this past year, light a white taper candle to help guide their way for a smooth transition.

Raise a toast in honor of your ancestors with wine or beverage of choice; leave an offering of dark bread for their feast. Allow candles to burn until they extinguish.

Place hand written letters to loved ones on the altar. Take a moment to remember your loved ones, relive memories, communicate thoughts, or ask them for advice. The veil is thin, they are listening.
