On October 30th, 2011 we made a promise to visit all the historical sites that have ties back to the Salem Witch Trials. This trek included Danvers, Beverly, Andover, and Salem, previously known as Salem Village, Salem Farms, & Salem Town. This is our pictorial tribute to the 25 innocents; 19 hanged, 1 pressed-to-death, & 5 who died awaiting trial. It is important to note, those falsely accused & executed were not witches. If they confessed to being a witch, their lives would have been spared.
After spending over an hour picking up food wrappers, shop flyers, soda cans, water bottles, candle wax, dodging segway tours circling the memorial, and yes a pair of underwear at The Witch Trials Memorial, we placed roses on each bench not just out of respect, but to remind those visiting our beautiful city it is NOT a fairground.

Many innocent souls were wrongly executed for Witchcraft in Salem, MA, 1692. It’s a very haunting part of our history that 300+ years later, one would think we’d have learned lessons from. Alas, judgment, fear, greed, and close-mindedness still plague society.
Unfortunately, the true history behind the Salem witch-hunt has been muddied by fictional movies and the misunderstanding those executed were actually witches.
With that said, some good has risen from the ashes. Salem’s association with Witchcraft has made our city a gathering point for all walks of Pagans, Witches, and Wiccans alike. That in itself is a monumental achievement towards returning to one.
At the Salem Witch Trials memorial, we honored the 8 souls executed this day, 319 years ago with ritual, lighting candles, and placing offerings on each of their benches.
